Which Android do you have?
Three Android families, one Smartiflix
Google TV & Android TV
Built into many Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips TVs, plus devices such as the Chromecast with Google TV. Excellent app choice and voice search.
Android TV boxes
Branded boxes with Google Play certification are reliable. Avoid unbranded boxes stuck on very old Android versions.
Phones & tablets
Any recent Android phone or tablet works with a player app from Google Play, ideal for a second room or travel.
Installing safely
Google Play first, always
On Android, the safest place to get a player app is Google Play: apps there are scanned by Google Play Protect and update automatically. We recommend Play Store apps whenever one fits your device.
Android also allows installing apps from other sources. If we ever suggest that for a specific device, we tell you exactly which source and how to switch the permission off again afterwards. Never install files from strangers or unknown websites.
Signs an app is genuine
- The developer name matches the one we gave you
- It has a meaningful number of downloads and reviews
- It does not ask for permissions like contacts or SMS
- It was updated in the last year
Step by step
Install Smartiflix on Android
Open Google Play
On Google TV use the Search tab; on Android TV, the Play Store app; on phones, the Play Store icon.
Install the player we recommend
Check the developer name, then Install and Open.
Add your Smartiflix login
Select the username/password (Xtream Codes) or playlist option and enter your details.
Check date, time and zone
Settings → System → Date & time, so the guide matches your clock.
Keep Android running smoothly
- Keep at least 1 GB of storage free on boxes and TVs
- Clear the player app’s cache if channels load slowly
- Install system updates when the device offers them
- Restart the device once a week
Android questions
Which Android version do I need for Smartiflix?
Any device that can run current versions of popular player apps from Google Play. Very old boxes (several Android versions behind) may not; send us the model if unsure.
Can I cast from my Android phone to the TV?
Some player apps support casting to Chromecast or Google TV. For everyday viewing, installing the app directly on the TV device gives a steadier picture.
Does a Chromebook count as Android?
Most recent Chromebooks run Android apps from Google Play, so the same steps apply.
